Italy Day 6: Biking in Italy
August 26, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Oregon State heads to medieval town Lucca
FLORENCE, Italy – The Oregon State women's basketball team had another impressive experience on Monday, as the team took time to visit the town of Lucca, where they enjoyed a bike tour.
Â
Lucca, a medieval town west of Florence, is well known for its structure of defensive wall. The team was able to ride their bikes on top of the walls, as well as inside them. The Beavers learned about the history of the town, while taking sights that included Lucca's churches and towers.
Â
After the tour, Oregon State gathered together for lunch in the town center.
Â
"Lucca has a lot of rich history," said senior Mikayla Pivec. "Our tour guide was a really good story-teller, and he made the city come to life for us. It was really cool to get the experience of biking around that town."
Â
After that, the Beavers returned to Florence for one more evening of enjoying the city. The team came to take in the sights as well as the shopping available in Florence.
Â
Oregon State will head to Venice tomorrow for the third of their four stops on the tour. The squad will play games on back-to-back days, taking on Ponzano Basket on Tuesday and ASD San Martino di Lupari on Wednesday.
Â
"We came here to have fun, but also to get better as a basketball team," Pivec said. "We're going to look at what we did well in our first game, and also look at what we need to adjust. We're excited to get on the floor, and especially to see the freshmen continue to step up as they come into the team."
