August 22, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Oregon State heads to Rome on Friday
NAPLES, Italy – The Oregon State women's basketball team spent its first full day in Italy Thursday, as the team visited the coastal region outside Naples.
Â
The first step was a drive past Pompeii to the town of Sorrento, where the team was able to do a walking tour. The Beavers saw the impressive coastline, the town center and various other sites.
Â
"The coast was really beautiful," said freshman Noelle Mannen. "It was awesome to see the culture there and to get to spend time in the small towns. This trip has been so amazing. It's been a great chance to bond with the team, and doing it in Italy makes it truly special."
Â
From Sorrento, the squad took a boat around the coast to the town of Positano. On the way the group was able to get a view of the island of Capri, a vacation destination for numerous celebrities. In Positano, the Beavers took time to see the local shops, eat lunch and spend time on the beach.
Â
A second boat ride took Oregon State to the town of Amalfi, one of the most scenic regions on the Mediterranean coast. Many of the players took an opportunity to swim in the sea, while others enjoyed the local shopping and gelato.
Â
"I'm excited to get on the floor and see what the games are like," Mannen said. "I'm also really excited to see the other cities in Italy, and really for everything that is coming up."
Â
After returning to Naples, the team had some time to explore the city on their own, before coming together to enjoy the Italian cuisine at a team dinner.
Â
Friday will see the Beavers travel to Rome, where they will experience some of the most historic sites in all of Europe.
