Italy Day 5: Beavers Head North to Florence
August 25, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Oregon State takes in statue of David, Duomo
FLORENCE, Italy – The Oregon State women's basketball team made its way north on Sunday, as the team's 2019 Italy tour moved from Rome to Florence.
Â
Fresh off an impressive win in their first game of the summer, the Beavers made their way to the Accademia Gallery in Florence. The museum includes some of the most famous artwork in all of Europe, including Michelangelo's David.
Â
"I really enjoyed the city of Florence," said sophomore Aleah Goodman. "There is a lot going on here, and every turn you take there is something new to see. The town is pretty small, so it's easy to walk around. Seeing the statue of David was amazing as well."
Â
After taking in the art, Oregon State enjoyed a walking tour through the city center, including the famous Duomo. From there the players were free to explore the city on their own, including the famous outdoor market, which features Florence's notorious leather goods.
Â
Oregon State will venture out of Florence Monday for a bike tour of nearby Lucca, before returning for another evening in the city. From there, the squad will head to Venice on Tuesday. The team's next game will come in Tuesday evening, when it faces Pozano Basket.
Â
"This whole experience has been amazing so far," Goodman said. "Italy is truly breathtaking, and every place we got is a little bit different. I'm excited to see Venice and Como over the next few days, and experience everything those cities have to offer."
