CORVALLIS – The Oregon State University softball program adds two transfers to the 2020 roster, head coach Laura Berg announced Wednesday. Trystan Melancon, a graduate-transfer from the University of Houston and Rylee Maston, a redshirt sophomore from Arizona State, join the Beavers for the upcoming campaign.
"I'm really excited about having Trystan and Rylee as a part of our team," said Berg. "They are incredible athletes and people. I know they'll help us get to the next level."
Trystan Melancon – P, Sr., Tomball, Texas (University of Houston/Tomball Memorial H.S.)
A Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Houston, Melancon joins the Beavers as a graduate transfer after making 14 appearances in the circle last season while posting a 2.28 ERA and helping Houston to a run in the NCAA Tournament, making an appearance in the championship game of the Austin Regional.
Melancon boasts many accomplishments from her junior campaign which included throwing a perfect game against DePaul. She also tossed her second no-hitter of her career in an 8-0 win over Northern Illinois. Melancon went a stretch during the 2019 season where she put together a three-game stretch where she posted three shutouts, a 3-0 record and 19 strikeouts in 17.0 innings of work.
Melancon comes to OSU with outstanding performance off the field after being named an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete in 2017 and 2018, being named to the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and also earned the Americna Weekly Honor Roll twice during her freshman campaign.
Daughter of Amanda and Casey Melancon, Trystan plans to work towards obtaining a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies.
Rylee Maston – C, R-So., Lancaster, Calif. (Arizona State University/Paraclete H.S.)
The Arizona State softball team Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2017-18 joins Oregon State as a redshirt sophomore after appearing in 15 games in 2018 before redshirting the 2019 season.
Maston started in six matchups and held a .984 fielding percentage during the Sun Devils' 2018 season. She brings postseason experience behind the plate after recording a base hit in a pressured matchup against South Carolina in the NCAA Super Regional to help the team make the Women's College World Series that year.
Before her time at ASU, Maston was named the Most Valuable Player in 2017 at Paraclete HS while maintaining a .680 batting average. She finished her career at Paraclete with a .528 BA and was a two-time CIF Champion, a four-time Golden League Champion and was named to the First Team All-League Softball Team three times.
Daughter of Paula and Scott Maston, Rylee intends to major in human development and family science at Oregon State.
The two players will be joined by fellow newcomers Grace Gaither, Grace Messmer, Ivana Perez, Valeria Pero and Gin Xiao, all of whom were announced early this year.
