Butler's Two Home Runs Not Enough in Loss to San Diego State
February 15, 2026 | Softball
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Oregon State softball fell in the final game of the 2026 Campbell Cartier Classic, a contest that finished 10-5 in favor of host San Diego State.
Jaeya Butler hit 2-4 with two home runs and three RBI, leveling the game at two with a two-run shot in the third inning before smashing a solo shot in the seventh. For Butler, the two-home run performance makes it seven total across 10 appearances in 2026, which ties her entire season total from 2025, and it was also her second multi-homer game of the year.
Tristian Thompson and Morgan Howey each finished with two hits and one home run, Howey putting the Beavers ahead by one in the fourth and Thompson going back-to-back with Butler in the seventh. Thompson, who led the team with 10 home runs in 2025, has now hit two long balls in her last three appearances, while Howey's multi-hit performance improved her batting average to .406, which ranks second on the team.
Rylei Trujillo made her eighth appearance of the season, starting and tallying one hit as the team's designated player, while the trio of Kimberlee Aleman, Bailey Murray and Amelia Streuber threw a combined 123 pitches in the circle.
Though the Beavers took their second lead of the game in the fourth inning thanks to Howey's long ball, SDSU leveled in the fourth and posted a seven run fifth inning to take a commanding lead. Butler and Thompson's back-to-back blasts in the seventh weren't enough as the game finished 10-5.
Oregon State softball returns to action next week in California, playing six games in four days at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs.
