Beavers Fall to Ducks in the Showcase at the WVC
May 11, 2019 | Women's Volleyball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball fell to Oregon, 3-1, in spring volleyball action Saturday night in the showcase of the Willamette Volleyball Classic.
In an exhibition that was predetermined to last four sets, the Beavers lost by scores of 20-25, 17-25, 25-22 and 27-29.
Oregon State bounced back from an uneven second set to take an early lead against the Ducks in the third and held on to secure the game. OSU used the same scenario in the fourth but Oregon stormed back late to tie it at 22-22. The Beavers fought off three set points before falling 27-29.
"This was a great opportunity to play under pressure with fans watching. It's just something that can't be replicated in practice," head coach Mark Barnard said. "We attacked well at times and didn't have many errors. We have been working on keeping the ball in play when we're out of system and the passing breaks down and we did that pretty well tonight."
"I thought Lindsey Schell did a good job blocking tonight and Kory Cheshire was pretty good on the attack and Chloe Brown puts some nice swings on the ball as well."
The third week of the spring season continues next Saturday, May 18, at The Hoop in Salem when the Beavers face Oregon again at 11 a.m. and then take on Seattle at 3 p.m.
