Beavers Finish Second, Advance to Regional Final

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 15 Oregon State gymnastics team finished second in the NCAA Corvallis Regional Second Round with a score of 197.125 Friday night. The finish advances the Beavers to the Regional Final tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Gill Coliseum.
It was a second time this season the Beavers have reached the 197-point mark.
"I'm proud of what our team accomplished tonight," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "They've worked hard since Pac-12's. We have felt like ever since we finished our first event at Pac-12's we're really turned things around and are trying to keep the momentum going into regionals."
Oregon State set a high bar in the opening rotation with senior McKenna Singley leading off the Beavers' rotation on the balance beam tying her career-best with a 9.90 to get the crowd of 2,234 on its feet early. Isis Lowery immediately followed with her own personal-mark of 9.90. After a missed routine, Madi Dagen got the Beavers back on track with the third 9.90 of the rotation. Maela Lazaro notched a 9.925 to tie her career-mark. Sabrina Gill finished the rotation with a 9.875 giving OSU it's season-high of 49.500 on the beam.
Leading the meet after the opening stanza, the Beavers carried the momentum to the floor exercise. Destinee Davis and Mary Jacobsen opened the scoring with matching 9.80's before Savanna Force tallied a 9.850. Lowery and Kaitlyn Yanish each posted scores of 9.90 and the Beavers totaled 49.250 on the apparatus.
The Beavers continued to lead at the halfway mark by a score of 98.750-98.500 over top-seeded Florida. Jacobsen posted OSU's top score with a 9.875, good for second in the meet, with Yanish tallying a 9.825. Singley and Lena Greene each received marks of 9.80 on the vault and Oregon State finished the rotation with a 49.075, tying the Gators for the top team score of the day.
While the OSU had fallen behind to Florida 148.000-147.825 in the third rotation, the Beavers continued to pour it on, in what was arguably the thier best meet of the year, with Gill registering a career-high 9.925 on the bars to tie for first, making her a regional champion. Mariana Colussi-Pelaez nailed her routine as well to score 9.90 and Halli Briscoe scored 9.875. The Beavers finished the bars rotation with a score of 49.300.
"We'll had a tremendous, active and loud crowd tonight. Our fans are always so supportive and we are really lucky to have that. They are a difference-maker for us and we look forward to having that kind of environment behind us again tomorrow night."
The NCAA Corvallis Regional concludes Saturday at 7 p.m. with the regional final featuring Florida and Oregon State, as well as Denver, which was the regionals' second seed, and Boise State, the third seed, both of which advanced from Friday's first session.
