Beavers Take Down Ducks in Eugene

Oregon State defeats Oregon in game one for the first time since 2009.
Eugene, Ore. – The bats came alive for the Oregon State as Missy Nunes led the Beavers with two hits and one homerun in OSU's 8-0 victory over Oregon in game one of the Civil War series.
Today's win marks the first time since 2009 that the Beavers have defeated the Ducks in the first game of the series. Today's win also marks the first OSU run-rule win over Oregon since an 11-2 victory in 2001.
Shelby Weeks, Camryn Ybarra, Frankie Hammoude, Kayleen Shafer, Izzy Owen and Maia Rader each recorded one hit for the Beavers. Nunes, Shafer and Rader each recorded two RBIs each while Hammoude and Nunes led the team with two runs each.
Oregon State struck first in the second inning after Hammoude drew a lead-off walks. Nunes smacked a single up the middle, and Shafer laid down a sac bunt to advances Nunes and Hammoude to second and third. Michelle Sass was walked to load the bases and give Izzy Owen the opportunity for a sac fly to center field that allowed Hammoude to score and Nunes to advance to third. Rader came up with a big stand-up double into center field that scored Nunes and Sass to allow the Beavers to take a 3-0 lead.
OSU added two more runs in the third inning after Hammoude being walked again, followed by Nunes blasting a two-run homer over the center-field fence.
The Beavers kept everything rolling in the fourth inning when Owen led-off with her first career double down the right-field line. Rader recorded a sac bunt, and Weeks had a sac fly allowing Owen to score.
Oregon State punched the final two runs across the plate in the top of the fifth when Ybarra and Hammoude hit back-to-back singles. Lovie Lopez and Karla Calderon came in to pinch run for Ybarra and Hammoude, respectively. Shafer came up with a huge double for the Beavers down the third-base line that scored both Lopez and Calderon giving the Beavers the final 8-0 victory.
The Beavers improve to 22-18 overall and 4-13 in Pacific-12 Conference action. Meanwhile, the Ducks fall to 21-23 overall and 4-12 in Pac-12 play.
Mariah Mazon pitched her 17th complete game this season and her fourth solo shutout while striking out four batters to improve to 13-12 on the season.
