Rutschman Named Pac-12 Player Of The Week
March 19, 2019 | Baseball
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon State junior catcher Adley Rutschman has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Rutschman hit safely in all four games for the Beavers last week as Oregon State went 2-2 versus Oregon and UCLA. A junior majoring in finance, he was 8-for-13 (.615) with two home runs, nine runs batted in and five walks. His on-base percentage over the four games was .722 (13-for-18).
Rutschman capped the week by tying his career-best with four hits in the finale versus UCLA. He homered twice and drove in four runs.
The Sherwood, Ore., native was 1-for-2 with two RBI in the Beavers' win over Oregon Tuesday, walking twice. He went 1-for-3 in the opener at UCLA, then was 2-for-3 with three RBI in Saturday's come-from-behind win over the Bruins. One of his two hits that game was a two-run single in Oregon State's four-run ninth.
He has played in and started all 18 games for Oregon State this season and leads the team with a .456 batting average. Rutschman also paces the club with eight home runs – one shy of his total from all of 2018 – and 23 RBI in addition to 26 walks. He has an .895 slugging percentage and .619 on-base percentage, which ranks second nationally.
The honor is the first of Rutschman's career and the 75th all-time for an Oregon State player since the then-Pac-10 awards began in 1986.
