Beavers Fall to Sun Devils in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 9 Oregon State women's basketball team fell to No. 21 Arizona State 66-54 Friday evening in Tempe, Ariz.
Junior Mikayla Pivec led the Beavers with 18 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Sophomore Aleah Goodman recorded 16 points and knocked down three 3-pointers.
Joanna Grymek tallied six points and six rebounds, while fellow senior Katie McWilliams dished out four assists.
As a team, the Beavers scored 30 of their 54 points in the paint.
The defenses controlled the opening phase of the game, as the teams headed to the first media break level at eight. Arizona State took a five-point edge into the second quarter.
The Beavers used a 7-0 run to take its first lead early in the second quarter. The Sun Devils answered with seven unanswered points of their own to regain the advantage, before heading to the break in front 28-25.
Goodman led the Beavers with 10 first-half points, while Pivec had seven points and four rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
Arizona State extended the lead to 16 mid-way through the third quarter. The Sun Devils ended the period up 53-38. Oregon State got back within single-digits with just over three minutes to play, but Arizona State closed out the 12-point win.
The Beavers will wrap up the regular season Sunday afternoon when they take on Arizona in Tucson. That game will tip at 2 p.m. PT/3 p.m. MT.
