No. 7 Beavers Fall at No. 11 Stanford
February 08, 2019 | Women's Basketball
STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 7 Oregon State women's basketball team fell to No. 11 Stanford 61-44 Friday evening at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.
"Stanford's defensive performance was excellent tonight," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "They were disciplined in a way that forced us to take tough shots all game. Their stops led to their confidence on the offensive end, and they executed well. We will learn from this game, get better from it."
Redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum scored 23 points, as she went over the 20-point mark for the seventh time in Oregon State's last 10 games. The point guard also pulled down eight rebounds in the contest.
Senior Joanna Grymek went 3-for-3 from the floor to finish with eight points, while junior Mikayla Pivec tallied six points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Taya Corosdale pulled down seven rebounds for the Beavers.
The loss snaps a streak of 10-straight Pac-12 road victories for the Beavers.
Slocum kickstarted the Oregon State offense, as the Beavers scored the first six points of the game, before Stanford fought back to level the score at the first media timeout. The Cardinal ended the first quarter up 12-8.
Stanford added to its lead in the second quarter, going up 24-13 four minutes before the intermission. The Cardinal went ahead by as many as 19 in the first half, before the Beavers fought back late in the second quarter to head to the break down 36-20.
The Cardinal extended the lead to 20 in the third quarter, on its way to the 17-point win.
Oregon State will head across the Bay on Sunday for a matchup with California.
