Beavers Take Down Lancers
February 23, 2019 | Softball
Stockton, Calif. – Oregon State's softball program took down California Baptist, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon led by sophomore pitcher, Mariah Mazon's performance in the circle.
On the offensive side, Shelby Weeks led off with a walk. Weeks went on to steal second and third for her 49th and 50th career stolen bases. Sophomore Missy Nunes hit a RBI double to bring Weeks home and give the Beavers a 1-0 lead.
Bailey McLaughlin and Camryn Ybarra both were walked by the Lancer's pitcher to load the bases. Nunes was able to capitalize off a passed ball by California Baptist's catcher to extend Oregon State's lead to 2-0 at the bottom of the first.
OSU put up a tough defensive stand limiting the Lancers from getting any runners on base and stranding three throughout the game.
Mazon finished with nine strike outs, allowed only two hits and didn't give up a walk. Mazon struck out all three batters faced in the bottom of the third inning and forced CBU to leave one stranded at third base in the bottom of the fourth.
Oregon State returns to action Sunday, February 24 at 10 a.m. against Pacific to wrap-up the UOP – Libby Matson Tournament.
