Beavers Win Both on Day One in Stockton

Stockton, Calif. – Oregon State's softball program records 17 runs on the day to sweep Nevada and Pacific at the UOP – Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif. on Friday.
GAME ONE vs NEVADA
Senior Shelby Weeks singles through the left side, and Lovie Lopez laid down a sac bunt to put Weeks on second as Missy Nunes hit a RBI double in the top of the first inning to give Oregon State an early 1-0 lead against Nevada.
Weeks laid down a bunt to start the fifth inning. Freshman Frankie Hammoude stepped up three batters later to hit a two-run homer over the right field fence for her seventh home run of the season. This extended the Beaver's lead to 3-0.
Senior Jessica Garcia would single in the top of the sixth to be followed by Kayleen Shafer hitting her first home run of the season over the left field fence. OSU took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Nevada scored one run in the bottom of the sixth before Oregon State would take the game, 5-1.
Senior Meehra Nelson led the charge on the defensive side for the Beavers striking out 10 batters from the circle to earn her third victory of the season.
GAME TWO vs PACIFIC
Oregon State was the first team to get on the board in the second game as well, as the team scored three runs. The first came from a loaded bases situation, and freshman Maia Rader hit a RBI single to center field. Weeks would step up a couple batters later and hit a two-RBI single.
Pacific added one in the bottom of the second.
OSU had a huge fourth inning that would start from Rader and Ashton Phillips both walking to lead off the inning. Weeks laid down a sac bunt that advanced both runners to scoring position. Lopez singled to left field scoring Rader. Lopez would steal second, and Hammoude walked to load the bases.
Freshman Bailey McLaughlin stepped up and hit a single to left field that scored both Phillips and Lopez. Garcia followed that up with a single before Camryn Ybarra would join the action with a RBI single that kept the bases loaded. Rader would added another RBI before Garcia would cross the plate on a wild pitch. In total, the Beavers racked up six runs off five hits in the top of the sixth extending its lead to 9-1.
UOP added its second run in the bottom of the fifth.
Oregon State continued to extend the lead in the top of the seventh as Rader singled and Phillips reached on an error before Weeks would hit a double into deep-right center scoring both. Senior Michelle Sass came in to pinch hit for Lopez and recorded her own RBI double to tack on the 12th run for the Beavers.
In total, the Beavers recorded 12 runs off 13 hits to capture a 12-2 victory over Pacific.
Junior Nerissa Eason struck out five batters in seven innings to earn her third victory of the season.
The Beavers return to action tomorrow, February 23, at 3:30 p.m. against California Baptist.
