February 16, 2019 | Men's Basketball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – In what was one of the most energetic crowds in recent memory at Gill Coliseum Saturday night featuring a record 2,133 Oregon State students, the Beavers (16-8, 8-4 Pac-12) completed a regular season sweep of Oregon (15-10, 6-6) pulling always for 72-57 victory in the 352nd meeting between the two programs.
The sweep, in front of a sold out crowd of 9,103, is the first time for OSU in the series since 2010 and it was the biggest margin of victory for OSU vs. Oregon since that same 2010 season (62-42).
Four Beavers scored in double figures led by Stephen Thompson Jr., with 22 points, Tres Tinkle added 13 while Gligorije Rakocevic tallied 11 and Ethan Thompson 10.
The win pushed OSU into second-place in the league standings heading into the final six games of the regular season. Oregon slipped into a tie for seventh with Colorado. The top four teams in the final standings are rewarded with a first round bye in the Pac-12 tournament.
Tinkle scored in double figures for the 58th straight, the second longest streak in program history, and moved into eighth place on the school's career scoring list with 1,500 points.
OSU outscored Oregon 45-29 in the second half to rally from a three-point halftime deficit. The Beaver defense held Oregon to 20-45 from the field, which included 11-for-34 after the Ducks started 9 of 11 for the game. OSU also committed just eight turnovers, a season-low in conference games, while forcing 18.
