Hammoude Hits Two Homeruns as Beavers Sweep Kajikawa Classic Games

Oregon State takes down Western Michigan, 8-3.
Tempe, Ariz. – The Oregon State softball program finished the first weekend with a 5-0 sweep at the Kajikawa Classic after capturing a 8-3 win over Western Michigan on Sunday morning.
Shelby Weeks singled and was joined on base by Missy Nunes two batters later after Nunes was hit by a pitch. Freshman Frankie Hammoude soared one over the outfield fence to give the Beavers an early 3-0 lead.
Oregon State would hold off any Bronco advances until the bottom of the fourth when Western Michigan hit a solo homerun followed shortly by a two-run homer.
The Beavers would strike back in the top of the sixth when junior Fallon Molnar came in to pinch hit for Jessica Garcia and got on base off a Bronco error. Garcia would come back in to run and advanced to second after Nunes was hit by her second pitch of the game. Hammoude stepped back up to the plate and dropped a bomb over the left-center give the Beavers a 6-3 lead.
OSU would extend their lead in the top of the seventh after Owen walked and Maia single and both runners advanced a base on a WMU throwing error. Weeks grounded out to second base that Owen was able to score on. Garcia would be hit by pitch, both Nunes and Hammoude would be walked. Lovie Lopez would pitch run for Nunes and Karla Calderon would pitch run for Hammoude. Garcia would eventually score on a wild pitch.
Senior Meehra Nelson started in the circle for the Beavers striking out three batters. Junior Nerissa Eason would come in to pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning and finish with six strikeouts earning her first win of the season.
The Beavers return to action next Friday at the Stacy Winsberg Tournament in California.
