
Beavers Set to Host Ducks in Civil War

THE GAMES: Oregon State hosts Oregon in the  Civil War for the final game of the regular season on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

CIVIL WAR: Oregon State and Oregon meet for the 28th time in program history and the 23rd time since the Civil War series has started. In the Civil War, OSU and Oregon are tied at nine wins a piece with four ties between them. The Beavers last won in 2017 at Lorenz Field, 1-0.
SENIOR NIGHT: Oregon State will recognize six seniors prior to the start of Thursday's game for their commitment to OSU while in the orange and black. The six athletes that will be recognized are: Ashleigh Fonsen, Lindsay LaMont, Paula Leblic, Taylor Lemmond, Toni Malone and Jamie McPherson.

- Nine Beavers have scored at least one goal this season (Weinert - 9, McReynolds and Schwartz - 5, Studer - 3, Conrad and Fried - 2, Fonsen, Leblic and Lemmond - 1)
- Sophomore Sydney Studer leads OSU with 1677 minutes played followed closely by Madison Ellsworth who has clocked 1664 and Bridgette Skiba with 1661.
- Oregon State reached the 10-win mark with a 3-1 win over Arizona State on Oct. 24. OSU will finish with the most wins in program history since 2012 when the Beavers went 11-6-3 overall. The last time OSU won at least two games in the Pac-12 was 2017 when OSU went 3-7-1.
- The Beavers have faced six ranked opponents this season
Offensive Mindset:
- Oregon State has outscored opponents 30-19 this season.
- OSU has recorded 248 shots this season through 18 games - in 2018 OSU only recorded 131 shots on the season.
- The Beavers have 25 assist this season coming from 12 players  compared to last season only having one total assist.
- Oregon State has taken 82 corners this season.
- Redshirt sophomore McKenzie Weinert is tied for eighth in goals (nine), eighth in shots (53) and ninth in points (21) in the Pac-12. With Weinert's 53 shots she is tied for third in most shots by a sophomore at OSU.
- Freshman Brianna McReynolds has been a force for OSU this season scoring five goals (tied for second on team) and leads the team with five assists (tied for 13th in Pac-12). McReynolds was also the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17 and named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
- McReynolds became the first Beaver to record a hat trick since 2011 after scoring three goals against Houston on Sept. 12. She also tallied an assist to finish with seven points.
- Abby Schwartz moved up the scoring list to be tied with McReynolds after scoring two goals against ASU to bring her goal total to five this season. Schwartz also sits 10th in the Pac-12 in shot percentage (.294).
- OSU sits fifth in the Pac-12 for points (85) and tied for sixth in assists (25).Â
Dominating Defense:
- Oregon State has started Madison Ellsworth, Marley Salveter and Sydney Studer every game this season in the back line with sophomore Bridgette Skiba in goal. Kaillen Fried started in 14 games. With Fried out, Ashleigh Fonsen and Nicole Nickerson have stepped in.
- The back unit has only given up 243 shots this season (13.5 per game).
- As a whole, OSU has posted six clean sheets with Bridgette Skiba recording five-solo shutouts (tied for ninth in OSU season history).
- Skiba currently sits tied for third in the Pac-12 for solo-shutouts (five), fifth in saves (64), fifth in save percentage (.771) and seventh in goals-against average (1.03). Skiba was named Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week on Oct. 8.
- OSU sits sixth in the Pac-12 for goals-against average and sixth for fewest -goals allowed this season.
- The Beavers defense have added to the offensive stance with Fried, Studer and Fonsen each scoring at least one goal. Dayton, Fonsen, Fried and Salveter have also each recorded an assist on the season.
New Era Under Kagan:
- 2019 marks the first season for head coach Matt Kagan who joins the Beavers after spending the prior two years as the associate head coach at Mississippi State.
- During his first season at MSU, the Bulldogs posted the best record the program had had in 16 years.
- Kagan has been a member of nine coaching staffs that have led teams to the NCAA Tournament - three of those teams have advanced to the Sweet 16.
- Kagan started his professional career in 2004 at Assumption College in Massachusetts before taking the reigns of Worcester State from 2005-08.
The Staff:
- Kagan brings in three distinguished coaches to join his staff.
- Jenny Ruiz-Williams was a four-year letterwinner at UNLV and a two-time All-Mountain West Selection while helping the program to their first ever NCAA appearance.
- Ruiz-Williams was a member of the Mexican National Team when they won bronze at the Pan American Games in 2003, 2011 and 2015. Ruiz-Williams scored the game-winning goal in the bronze-medal game in 2011 against Columbia.
- Ruiz-Williams joined the Seattle Reign FC in 2013 before competing in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup with Mexico.
- Nick Stirrett joins the Beavers staff working primarily with the goalkeepers after spending the last three seasons at the University of Illinois where he helped the Illini finish fifth in the Big Ten.
- Prior to his time at Illinois, Stirrett helped lead the Penn State Nittany Lions to become the 2015 NCAA National Champions.
- Stirrett also spent two seasons as the head men's coach at the University of Mount Union.
Newcomers:
- The Beavers welcome nine newcomers to the 2019 roster, seven freshman and two transfers.
- Five newcomers have combined for 34 of OSU's 85 points to date (McReynolds - 15, Schwartz - 11, Conrad - 4, Galceran and Salveter - 2).
- Freshman Marley Salveter has started every game for the Beavers this season to date with 1143 minutes played. McReynolds and Herrera have both started 14 games this season, while Schwartz has started 10, Galceran seven and Conrad one.
Last Week vs No. 13 UCLA:Â
- Oregon State fell to No. 13 UCLA, 4-0.
- This was the first game OSU allowed an opponent to score more than two goals this season.
- Weinert led OSU with four shots and Skiba recorded six saves.

- Oregon State dropped a tough battle to No. 11 USC, 1-0.
