CORVALLIS – Oregon State's women's soccer team (10-4-2, 2-5-2) fell to No. 13 UCLA (12-4-1, 6-3-0) on Thursday night at Lorenz Field, 4-0.
"We ran into a very good team," said head coach Matt Kagan. "It obviously wasn't our night. All we can do is regroup and get ready to host USC on Sunday."
Redshirt junior Nicole Nickerson was the first to get a shot off taking one in the fourth minute. She got her head on another one in the eighth minute after Oregon State was awarded a corner but the shot went wide right.
Despite OSU's offense attempts, UCLA struck first finding the back of the net in the 14th minute. Redshirt sophomore McKenzie Weinert attempted to get OSU back in the game a couple minutes later forcing UCLA's goalkeeper to make a save followed by another Beaver shot attempt from freshman Brianna McReynolds but neither were able to find the back of the net.
The Bruins added another goal in the 37th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Sophomore Bridgette Skiba made an impressive save within the first minute of the second half as UCLA went on the offensive attack. Weinert was the first Beaver to record a shot in the second half in the 65th minute of play that was high before firing another towards the bottom center that UCLA saved.
UCLA tacked on the third goal of the game in the 71st minute getting a cross pass to an open player on the back side of the goal. UCLA was awarded the final goal of the game in the 74th minute when Oregon State's defense attempted to clear a ball that was a couple feet in-front of the OSU goal but the ball ricocheted off a Beaver defender into the back of the goal.
Freshman Abby Schwartz made the final charge for the Beavers in the 76th minute taking a shot towards the lower right corner of the goal but UCLA's keeper got her hands on it to stop it.
Skiba finished the game with six saves. The Beavers recorded nine shots as a team led by Weinert, who finished with four.
Oregon State is back at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. hosting No. 11 USC on Lorenz Field for the Military Appreciation game.
