Rowing Opens Fall Season at Head of the American Regatta

CORVALLIS, Ore. – This Saturday the Oregon State women's rowing team heads to Golden River, Calif. to compete in the 2019 Head of the American Regatta. The regatta is hosted by the Sacramento State Aquatic Center and racing takes place on Lake Natoma at Nimbus Flat State Park.
This is the second consecutive year that the team has begun the season at the Head of the Lake American as the Beavers' Collegiate 4+ won its division at last year's fall opener. The boat was coxed by current senior Bailey Daniels.
COURSE: The course is a five-kilometer, buoyed head race for all teams who are competing. The event will be held at Nimbus Flat State Park and racing takes place on Lake Natoma. THe lake is the annual home of the Pac-12 Championships, and frequent site of the men's and women's national championship regattas.
REGATTA TIMES: The Head of the American features 51 race categories for men's and women's juniors, colleges and masters. Here's the schedule for the events in which Oregon State is entered:
11:10 a.m. PT – Women's Collegiate 2- (Four OSU Boats)
2:30 p.m. PT – Women's Collegiate 8+ (Two OSU Boats)
3:30 p.m. PT – Women's Collegiate 4+ (Two OSU Boats)
Last year, the Beavers' V4 was powered by Shelby Larkin, Jane Smeins, Emma Bernou, Claire Williams and coxed by Bailey Daniels. The crew rowed in 20-minutes 0.7-seconds to win the collegiate 4+ division. OSU outpaced second place Stanford by more than seven seconds for the crown.

PORTLAND FALL CLASSIC: Additionally, Oregon State Rowing will compete on Sunday, Oct. 27 for the Portland Fall Classic. The Men's and Women's team will compete in Vancouver Lake, Washington at Vancouver Lake Regional Park. Racing will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the Men's Collegiate Varsity 8+ event and 9:06 for the Women's Collegiate Varsity 8+. The Women's Colelgiate Varsity 4+ will round out the day for the Beavers at 10:50 a.m..
