Beavers Take Down No. 11 Huskies in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash. – The 19th-ranked Oregon State gymnastics team beat No. 11 Washington Saturday night, 196.100-195.900. The Beavers registered their highest score of the season for the third straight week improving their record to 4-1 on the season.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Yanish led the Beavers scoring 39.250 in the all-around to set a personal-best. Yanish set season-highs on all four events.
The Beavers hit 23 out of 24 routines and secured their top beam score of the year, with a 49.275, eclipsing the 49-point mark for the first time in 2019.
"Before the meet I spoke with the team about fighting to the very end and that's exactly what they did tonight," head coach Tanya Chaplin said. "We had a solid start and got better in each rotation after that. I love the fight that I am seeing from this team every time we go out there. They are doing a really good job of staying strong and staying focused. This is a journey we're on and different things will happen as the season goes on and we can let those affect us negatively or for the positive. So far, this team has chosen to make positives and grow from each experience. We weren't perfect but we are continuing to grow stronger each time out."
Starting the meet on the uneven bars, Oregon State scored 48.800 fell behind early with Washington posting a score of 48.850 on the vault. Mary Jacobsen, who hails from Puyallup, Wash., celebrated her birthday by leading the Beavers' bars lineup with a season-best 9.85. Yanish, Isis Lowery and Halli Briscoe each added scores of 9.75.
OSU continued to lose ground in the second rotation tallying a total score of 48.850 on the vault. Freshman Madi Dagen scored 9.825 to lead the Beavers for the second week in a row and Yanish registered a season-best 9.80.
Trailing 97.800-97.650 at the halfway point, the Beavers rotated to their best event in 2019, the floor exercise. Jacobsen promptly tied her season-best to lead off for the Beavers. Dagen followed with a 9.80 of her own and Savanna Force added another to set up the end of the lineup. Lowery dazzled the crowd of 2,172 with her routine to post a season-best 9.875 and Yanish finished the Beavers' barrage with a 9.90, her best effort of the year. With a 49.175 in the third stanza, OSU took the lead going up on the Huskies 146.825-146.675.
Finishing on the balance beam, OSU notched a season-best 49.275 on the event crushing its previous high of 48.975. Lowery tallied a career-high 9.85 to start the lineup. Dagen followed with her own career-best 9.85 and Yanish tied her personal-mark with a 9.80. McKenna Singley posted the Beavers' third 9.85 of the rotation and Maela Lazaro won the event title for the second straight week with a career-high 9.925.
The Beavers return to Gill Coliseum next week to host UCLA, the defending national champions, Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11:30 a.m.
