Slocum, Pivec Come Up Big in Road Win at UCLA

Oregon State drops Bruins 83-73
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 10 Oregon State women's basketball team used 20+ point performances from Destiny Slocum and Mikayla Pivec to take down UCLA 83-73 Friday evening at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles, Calif.
"I was really pleased with our resiliency and toughness," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "I thought it was a great performance overall. UCLA is a great team and a battle-tested team. We knew we were going to have our hands full, and it was going to take everything we had tonight. I'm really pleased with the effort and happy for our team."
Redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum led the Beavers with 22 points and eight assists, while junior Mikayla Pivec played all 40 minutes to score 21 points and pull down seven rebounds on 8-for-11 shooting.
Sophomore Taya Corosdale fell just short of a double-double, going for 13 points and nine rebounds. Senior Joanna Grymek played important minutes, putting up 12 points and two blocks, while sophomore Aleah Goodman went for seven points and three assists.
As a team, Oregon State shot 56.1 percent from the floor and held UCLA to 38.8 percent shooting. The Beavers shot 64.7 percent from the floor in the third quarter, and 72.7 percent in the fourth.
Pivec scored the first six Beaver points, as Oregon State jumped in front 8-5 at the first media break. The defenses continued to control most of the opening period, as the Beavers headed to the second up 13-11. Pivec finished the first quarter with nine points.
The two sides traded baskets through most of the second frame, with neither team able to create much separation. Oregon State went in front by as many as eight in the quarter, before heading to the break up 36-30.
Pivec scored 17 points and pulled down four rebounds in the first half, while Slocum dished out six assists.
UCLA cut the edge to two early in the second half, before the Beavers answered to get the lead back to eight. Oregon State headed to the closing frame up 59-52.
OSU extended the lead to double-figures mid-way through the fourth quarter and led by as many as 13 on its way to a 10-point win.
The Beavers will remain in Los Angeles Sunday to take on USC. That game will tip at 12 p.m. and will air live on Pac-12 Oregon and Pac-12 Los Angeles.
