Part 5 of our series introducing this year's newcomers features Kyla Waiters. She is a freshman outside hitter, from Costa Mesa, Calif. by way of Reagan High School in Texas.

What are you looking forward to most about playing for Oregon State?
The competitiveness of playing in the Pac-12

Who is/was your role model?
As cliché as it sounds, my role model is my mom. She inspires me to be the best version of me

Do you have a nickname?
Ky, but my old teammates used to call me Killa
Â
How do you like to spend your time away from volleyball?
When I'm by myself I like to write, draw, paint, act … really anything involving the arts. When I'm around other people I really like to play board games, listen to music and just chill with friends.

Other than volleyball, which OSU team are you most excited to see this year?
Basketball and baseball

What other sport did you play growing up?
Just about everything. Volleyball was the sport I fell in love with and stuck with.Â

What are you planning to study?
I'm undeclared for now but I'm interested in communications or Spanish.
Â
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I've always wanted to be an actress, but if I have to be realistic then I want to be an entrepreneur.

What is your favorite movie?
"Clueless"

What was your favorite childhood cartoon?
Spongebob! I still watch today.

What is the best meal you cook?
Barbeque chicken tacos

What made you choose to come to Oregon State?
When I first stepped on campus it felt like I belonged here. I love the people, the culture and the college town atmosphere.
