Get to Know Nya Buckner

Part 1 of our series introducing this year's newcomers, beginning with Nya Buckner. She is a true freshman from Chandler, Ariz. seeking playing time as a right-side hitter.

What are you looking forward to most about playing for Oregon State?

I am most looking forward to the high level of competition and the amazing fans.

Who is your role model?

My role models are my parents, because they are amazing, and Serena Williams, because she is the greatest athlete I have ever seen.

What was the best thing you did this summer?

The best thing I did this summer was go on a graduation cruise to Mexico with my whole family

Do you have a nickname?

My dad calls me NyNy or just Ny.

Do you have a game day superstition?

Always put on your left sock before your right, then left ankle brace and left shoe, then right ankle brace and shoe.

Do you have a hobby? How do you like to spend your time away from volleyball?

As a hobby, I like to write sometimes. If I'm feeling low key, I like to read or watch movies. If I'm feeling active, I like to go on bike rides and explore.

Other than volleyball, which OSU team are you most excited to see this year?

I am really excited to see women's basketball … and also football.

What other sport did you play growing up?

Besides doing gymnastics when I was really little, I have only ever played volleyball.

What are you planning to study?

Biochemistry

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a neurologist.

What is your favorite movie?

Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith (nerdy, i know)

What was your favorite childhood cartoon?

Rugrats, Dora the Explorer, & Spongebob

What is the best meal you cook?

Chicken pasta

What made you choose to come to Oregon State?

I chose Oregon State, because of the small college town, the family atmosphere, the amazing coaches, and the high level of competition.
