Duo chosen as Oregon State's honorees for conference honor
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Baseball's Jack Anderson and women's basketball's Marie Gulich have been selected as Oregon State's Tom Hansen Conference Medal winners, the Pac-12 announced Tuesday.
A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.
A native of Lake Oswego, Ore., Anderson recently graduated with a major in kinesiology (3.71 GPA) and minor in business. He announced prior to the season that he will attend Regis University in Denver starting in August, pursuing a graduate degree in physical therapy.
Anderson is a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, and twice was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 selection. He's served as the community service liaison for the Oregon State baseball program, and the Vice President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He has been heavily involved in community service, from participating in Beavers Without Borders to volunteering at animal shelters, among many other events.
Anderson has played in 59 games this season, starting 44, and is batting .276 with nine doubles, one triple and 15 runs batted in.
Gulich volunteered extensively with the Beaver Athletics Sustainability Team during her time at Oregon State. She also worked with Southside Youth Outreach, helping support underprivileged youth in Corvallis. The Cologne, Germany native is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention, and graduated with a degree in business administration.
Gulich earned All-Pac-12 honors of the second-straight season in 2018, and was also chosen as Pac-12 Media Defensive Player of the Year. The Cologne, Germany, native cemented her place as one of the top players in the nation, as she was named an ESPNW All-American, a Lisa Leslie Award semi-finalist and received a spot on the Naismith Trophy Mid-Season Watch List.
Gulich shot 65.2 percent from the floor in her senior season, and averaged 17.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest. She sits 13th in Oregon State history with 1,203 career points, and is fifth in program history with 843 career rebounds. She also blocked a Pac-12 leading 95 shots in her senior year, giving her 193 career rejections, the third-highest total in program history.
