Beavers Drop Series Opener to Oklahoma

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State University softball dropped the series opener against No. 2 Oklahoma at OSU Softball Complex on Friday afternoon, 4-0.
The Beavers fall to 26-18 overall on the season and maintain a 7-8 record in Pac-12 play. Meanwhile, Oklahoma improves to 40-3 overall this season and holds a 12-0 record in Big 12 action.
It was a defensive battle for much of the game as both sides tossed blank frames for the first five innings. Mariah Mazon (11-11) was tabbed as the starter in the circle for the Beavers and went 6.0 innings with five strikeouts.
The Sooners broke the scoreless tie in the top half of the sixth inning with an RBI single up the middle. The Beavers left runners on the corners in the bottom of the sixth, and Oklahoma led 1-0 after six complete innings.
Oklahoma added to its lead in the final inning putting up three runs. The Beavers left one runner on the bags in the seventh finalizing the score line, 4-0.
Jessica Garcia was the only one for the Beavers to register multiple hits going 2-for-3. McKenna Arriola, Hope Brandner and Michelle Sass each had one hit.
