Beavers Head to Seattle for MPSF Championships
February 21, 2018 | Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State track & field team is set to conclude its indoor season this weekend in Seattle at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation indoor championships held at the Dempsey Indoor Center.
The two-day event begins on Friday at noon with the women's weight throw. The action resumes on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the women's shot put and high jump.
The Beavers have had plenty of personal success this indoor season, setting 29 all-time marks including two school records.
"That's where we're trying to go with this," began head coach Louie Quintana. "Expectations have been set with how we carry ourselves every day, and we'll continue to be a better team each championship meet beginning here and at Pac-12's (spring) and then MPSF in 2019 and so forth."
Pole Vaulter Gillette Field set the Oregon State record at the UW Invitational on Jan. 26, with a clear of 12-feet 10.75-inches.
"I'm excited to see Gillette in the pole vault, she has been a tough competitor in her career at the MPSF and Pac-12 Championships," said Quintana. "I'm looking forward to this weekend to see how our entire pole vault crew compete."
Last Season, the Beavers placed 15th with 11 points scored at the 2017 MPSF championships. They set 11 all-time top-10 marks with four school records set in the 200 meters, 60 meters, pole vault and 4,000-meter distance medley relay.
Oregon State's squad features only four athletes who competed in last year's championships; Gwyneth McMorris (800, distance medley), Gillette Field (pole vault), Lindsay McShane (weight throw), Sydney Guthrie-Baker (weight throw, shot put).
"Let's continue to throw, jump and race to get personal records whether we are in scoring contention or not," said Quintana. "We want to walk out of this weekend continuing to rewrite the record books and continuing to PR, and to use that as a springboard for the outdoor season."
