
Beavers Tame Lions in Beyond the Classroom Game

Oregon State hosts Beyond the Classroom record with attendance of 8,820
CORVALLIS – The No. 8 Oregon State women's basketball team cruised past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 89-33 Wednesday afternoon before a crowd of 8,828 as the team hosted its annual Beavers Beyond the Classroom game.

"There was a lot of energy in Gill today, and it was a pleasure to be a part of," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "I'm thankful to all of the schools that chose to be a part of this, as they helped create an incredible environment for everyone involved. I thought we played really hard today and moved the ball well. We gave a great effort on both ends of the floor. I'm really pleased today and grateful to be part of such a great event."

The crowd was the third-biggest in Oregon State women's basketball history, and the team's largest ever for a Beavers Beyond the Classroom game.

Junior Mikayla Pivec put up a double-double, going for 12 points, 14 rebounds and four steals. Redshirt-sophomore Destiny Slocum finished with 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting. The point guard also dished out 11 assists, as she notched the first double-double of her Oregon State career.

Junior Kat Tudor hit four 3-pointers to lead all scorers with 18 points, and also pulled down eight rebounds. Senior Katie McWilliams rounded out four Beavers in double-figures, as she tallied 13 points and five boards.

Joanna Grymek recorded eight points on 4-for-5 shooting, while freshman Jasmine Simmons scored seven. Junior Janessa Thropay tallied eight steals, the highest total by a Beaver player since 2012.

As a team, Oregon State shot 50 percent in the game and held Arkansas-Pine Bluff to 20.3 percent shooting. The Beavers also out-scored the Lions 42-10 on points in the paint.

Oregon State used a 22-0 first quarter run to jump in front 26-4. The Beavers held the Lions scoreless for a stretch of over seven minutes to end the opening period. Oregon State continued to dominate in the second period to head to the locker room up 48-10.

Oregon State shot 51.4 percent in the opening 20 minutes, compared to 13.8 percent for Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Pivec tallied a double-double in the first half with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Beavers continued to roll from there, taking the win by 56.

Oregon State will remain at home Saturday for a matchup with Saint Mary's. That game is slated to tip at 6 p.m.
