Beavers Fall to Cougars

CORVALLIS – Jermar Jefferson tied a single-game record with four touchdowns on 139 yards as Oregon State fell in a Pacific-12 Conference matchup against Washington State.
The Beavers (1-5, 0-3 Pac-12) lost to the Cougars (5-1, 2-1 Pac-12) by a final score of 56-37 on Saturday night in Reser Stadium.
Washington State opened the scoring with a touchdown on the game's opening possession. The Cougars followed with a defensive touchdown leading 14-0 early.
The Beavers got on the board midway through the first quarter following a 14-play drive that took 6:11 off the game clock. OSU made two fourth down conversions allowing Jefferson to score his first touchdown of the night off a six-yard rush with Jordan Choukair adding the extra point cutting the lead in half.
After forcing a three-and-out on the following possession the Beavers offense stalled resulting in a punt that was muffed by the Cougars and recovered by OSU on the 7-yard line. On the first offensive play Jefferson scampered in for his second touchdown of the game.
Trailing 21-14 in the second quarter, the Beavers offense strung together an 11-play drive that ended with a Choukair field goal from 31 yards out.
Another forced three-and-out from the Oregon State defense put the ball back in the hands of the offense sparking a 60-yard drive. Jefferson once again capped off the drive with his third touchdown of the half. Trevon Bradford broke a run for 56 yards putting the Beavers inside the five-yard line.
The Cougars crossed the goal line once more before halftime, the Beavers trailed 28-24 at the break.
Oregon State received the kickoff out of halftime and drove down the field for a touchdown on the opening possession in the second half. The Beavers started in great field position thanks to Champ Flemings 57-yard kickoff return. Jefferson finished the drive off with is fourth rushing touchdown of the night.
Washington State scored 28 unanswered points before the Beavers punched it in the endzone with under a minute left in the game. Oregon State fell by a final score of 56-37.
