Oregon State Opens 2018 with Pair of Midwest Duals

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State wrestling is slated to battle two Midwest foes at the conclusion of a nearly two-week road trip. First, the Beavers battle the No. 15-ranked South Dakota State University Jackrabbits (4-2-0) on Friday, Jan. 5, nearly a month since the Beavers last dual. OSU and SDSU will meet for the third time in the history of the two programs at 5 p.m. PT inside Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D.
Two days later, Sunday, Jan. 7, the Beavers travel to Ames, Iowa taking on the Cyclones of Iowa State (0-3-0) at noon pacific time inside historic Hilton Coliseum.
Oregon State is 2-1-0 in duals on the young season.

Two competitors find themselves ranked by InterMat in its Dec. 26 rankings. Redshirt junior Ronnie Bresser is No. 10; redshirt junior Corey Griego is up two spots from the previous poll to No. 11. Redshirt senior Amar Dhesi dropped out of the Heavyweight rankings. Dhesi is the No. 9-ranked heavyweight according to TheOpenMat.
Crawford is seeking to become the 26th wrestler in Oregon State history to reach 100 career wins. Crawford currently sits in 30th all-time at 89 career wins. Hathaway moved into 15th for all-time career pins in the OSU record books. He is just 12 pins away from cracking the top ten.
Ranked Opponents
South Dakota State owns the top ranked 133-pounder according to Intermat in Seth Gross. Gross was the winner this past weekend at the Midlands Championships in his respective weight class. The Jackrabbits have three others ranked; Luke Zilverberg (No. 11, 157), David Kocer (No. 11, 174), and Nate Rotert (No. 6, 197).
141-pounder Kanen Storr is the top ranked wrestler for Iowa State. Storr is ranked at the 19th-best at the weight class, while 149-pounder Jarrett Degen sits at No. 20.
Last Time Out
OSU began the 12-day road trip at the 55th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at the Sears Centre where the Beavs finished in 12th place with 47 points. Redshirt junior Ronnie Bresser ended up with a second place finish, the second of his career at the event. Redshirt senior Amar Dhesi earned a sixth place finish.
Ronnie Bresser had the upset of the tournament at the Midlands Championships. The Klamath Falls native beat two-time Junior World Champion Spencer Lee of Iowa in the waning seconds of the semifinal at 125-pounds, 3-1. The junior almost completed a historic run, but fell to No. 2-ranked Nick Suriano 2-1 in the finals. This season, Bresser has wrestled some of the top 125-pound wrestlers in the nation; Daton Fix, Spencer Lee and Nick Suriano without surrendering a takedown.

After more than a two-month hiatus from Gill Coliseum, Oregon State finally returns home to face Wyoming in a non-conference dual on Jan. 14 at 7 p.m.
Oregon State begins Pacific-12 Conference action on the road against Arizona State on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Sun Devils were the 2017 Pac-12 Wrestling Champions.
This year's Pac-12 Championships are hosted by the Beavers on Feb. 25 in Gill Coliseum. The NCAA Championships are March 15-17 in Cleveland, Ohio.
