Beavers Fall to Utes in Three
September 30, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Oregon State volleyball team finished up their month-long road series with a three-set loss to No. 15 Utah. Freshman Maddie Goings led the offense with 12 kills.
Â
The Beavers fell to 10-6 overall with the loss to the Utes (12-3) by scores of 25-27, 16-25, and 17-25.
Â
Despite a hard-fought battle in the first set, the Beavers were not able to come away with a win. A kill at the end of the first set by Mary-Kate Marshall put the Beavers ahead 24-22. Following timeouts on both sides, the Beavers again took the lead at 25-24, but they were unable to hold on and dropped the set 27-25.
Â
"We battled early, but just didn't get it done," head coach Mark Barnard said. "We didn't play to our capability the rest of the match. We made changes to the lineup, but we just didn't have an answer for Utah."
Â
Kylee McLaughlin recorded her seventh double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs. Libero Kayla Ellis led the team with 12 digs. Marshall posted a season-high five blocks against the Utes.
Â
"We're looking forward to coming home to play. We haven't played at home since August 26 and we're ready to play in front of our home crowd again."
Â
The Beavers return home to host California after being on the road for over a month on Friday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m.Â
Â
Game Notes: Kylee McLaughlin recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 32 assists and 10 digs … Mary-Kate Marshall registered a season-high five blocks.
