Jake Thompson Named Top Pitcher For April

The redshirt junior is 10-0 with a 1.20 overall this season
ARLINGTON, Texas – Oregon State redshirt junior Jake Thompson has been named the nation's Pitcher of the Month for April, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced on Monday.
Thompson, who improved to 10-0 yesterday in his first start in May, went 4-0 in April, posting a miniscule 0.71 earned run average. He earned two of his wins in rubber games, and held opponents to three runs, 22 hits and nine walks while striking out 35 in 38 innings over five starts.
The Florence, Ore., native is tied for the nation's lead with 10 wins and his 1.20 ERA on the year is ranked fifth. Opponents have scored just 12 runs – 11 earned - off him in 82 1/3 innings, and Thompson has 84 strikeouts to 25 walks and 50 hits allowed for a WHIP of 0.91.
The award is his second major honor over the last week. On Thursday, he was named as one of three Oregon State players to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team. An economics major, he is now eligible to be an Academic All-American, with that announcement coming in early June.

Oregon State is on its way to being the nation's consensus No. 1 team for the seventh consecutive week. Baseball America, D1Baseball.com, Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game all have the Beavers at No. 1 this morning. Both the USA Today Coaches Poll and NCBWA rankings are due out later today.
