Porter, Morris Pace Beavers Over CSUN, Take The Series
May 03, 2026 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Ethan Porter gave No. 6 Oregon State an early jolt with a second-inning home run, and Trey Morris worked five innings to earn his fourth win of the season as the Beavers defeated CSUN, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium.
Porter, starting at first, turned on the second pitch he saw from CSUN reliever Traig Oughton — who had just been summoned to replace starter Charles Rogers — and sent a drive to left-center for his second home run of the season. The swing pushed Oregon State ahead 2-0 and set the tone for what became a decisive second inning.
Morris, also a freshman, did his part to keep the Matadors off the board for the better part of the afternoon. He allowed one earned run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts across five innings. The lone damage came in the fourth inning when Vaughn Coleman tripled and Trent Abel drove him in to cut the deficit to 4-1. But Morris worked around it and exited having kept CSUN in check the rest of the way. He is now 4-0 on the year.
Oregon State's offense broke the game open in the second inning, sending seven to the plate and pushing three runs across. Adam Haight, after Porter's home run, singled through the left side and Josh Proctor followed with a base hit up the middle that sent Haight to third. Jacob Galloway then punched a single to shallow left field to score Haight and make it 3-0. During Tyler Inge's at-bat, Oughton committed a balk that advanced Proctor to third and Galloway to second, and Inge grounded out to bring Proctor home and extend the lead to 4-0.
Inge kept producing in the fifth, doubling to open the frame before scoring on an AJ Singer groundout for the Beavers' final run.
Inge finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Easton Talt also went 2-for-4 and set the table early, doubling down the left-field line to lead off the first inning before coming home on a Bryce Hubbard RBI single through the middle.
The bullpen protected the lead after Morris departed. AJ Hutcheson covered the sixth and seventh innings without allowing a run, striking out two. Zach Kmatz ran into trouble in the eighth when Coleman doubled and Abel drove him in to make it 5-2, but the Beavers limited the damage to one run. Albert Roblez closed the door with a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his 14th save of the season.
Rogers lasted just one inning for CSUN, exiting after Hubbard's first-inning RBI single, and took the loss, dropping to 0-2 on the year.
Oregon State improved to 36-11 on the season. The Beavers take on Portland Tuesday night in Hillsboro.
