Bailey leads throwers at Long Beach meet

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State sophomore Kindel Bailey placed 11th in the javelin on Friday at the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State.
Bailey threw 146-6, just over three feet shy of the PR she set last week at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz., to pace three Beavers in the event. Junior school record-holder McKenzie Byrd took 15th in 139-6, 11 feet shy of her record effort, also at the Sun Angel Classic.
The Beach Invitational concludes with a full day of action on Saturday.
The Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific started on Thursday night with five Beavers running in the 5,000 meters.
Senior Morgan Anderson took 11th in Heat 1, the fastest section, in 16:25.57. She improved her No. 3 all-time mark, set at the 2016 Pac-12 championships, by more than five seconds.
Sophomore Juliana Mount took 19th in the same heat in 16:42.83 in her track debut at that distance. It was the No. 6 time in school history. Senior Emily Weber made her season debut and placed 10th in Heat 2 in 16:51.24, a PR by six seconds.
On Friday, redshirt sophomore Gwyneth McMorris took sixth in her heat and 57th overall in the 800 in 2:14.21. Anderson placed second in her heat and 25th overall in the 1500 in 4:23.65, less than a second off her No. 2 all-time clocking of 4:22.94. Juliana Mount (4:28.63), Kristiane Width (4-29.34/ and Nicole Goecke (4:39.03) also bettered their season-best times.
The Beavers set two current school records and have posted 28 all-time top-10 times or marks this season.
OSU competes at the Fresno State Invitational on April 22. It then hosts the annual High Performance Meet on April 28-29 at the Whyte Track & Field Center.
