OSU to compete at Azusa Pacific, Long Beach
April 12, 2017 | Women's Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State track & field team heads to Southern California this weekend for meets at Azusa Pacific and Long Beach State.
OSU's distance runners will compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific on Thursday and Friday. Seniors Emily Weber and Samantha Lewis will make their outdoor season debuts, running in the 5,000 meters on Thursday and in the 1,500 meters on Friday.
Also, junior Kristiane Width will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Thursday. She has never run the steeple at that distance, but set the school record in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (6:59.23) in a 2015 dual meet with Utah.
The sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers will compete in The Beach Invitational at Long Beach State on Friday and Saturday.
Included in that group are sprinter Venessa D'Arpino and thrower McKenzie Byrd. They set the school record in the 200 (23.82) and javelin (150-9.25), respectively, at the Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State on April 8.
"These are two more outstanding meets that should test our team and help prepare them for the big meets in the final month of the season," OSU coach Kelly Sullivan said.
"Our distance crew should be rested and ready to go after training through last weekend. I am looking for big things from that group."
The Beavers set two current school records and combined for 11 all-time top-10 times or marks at their three meets last weekend. They have posted 26 all-time top-10 times or marks this season.
