OSU wins team title at L&C Spring Break Open

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon State track & field team won seven individual events, a relay and the team title on Saturday at the Lewis and Clark Spring Break Open at Eldon Fix Track at Griswold Stadium.
Event winners for the Beavers in the opening day of outdoor track competition were redshirt sophomore Venessa D'Arpino in the 400 (56.86); senior Morgan Anderson in the 800 (2:12.00); redshirt junior Kristiane Width in the 1500 (4:36.48); senior Kara Hallock in the 100 hurdles (14.40); redshirt sophomore Dakota Steen in the 400 hurdles (1:03.62); senior Helen Ann Haun and sophomore Gillette Field in the pole vault (12-3.50), and junior Ally Jackson in the high jump (5-4.50).
OSU also won the 1600 relay; team membership was not available.
The Beavers scored 177 points to more than double the team total of runner-up Western Washington (82.50). The margin could have been significantly larger; junior Kerissa D'Arpino won the 100 (12.00) and 200 (24.35) and junior Jasmin McKenzie won the long jump (18-6) but they competed unattached and did not count toward the team score.
OSU also established four all-time top-10 times or marks on a day not conducive to top performances.
On Friday, the Beavers posted four all-time top-10 marks at the Lane Preview at Lane Community College.
Senior co-captain Rachel Picknell won the hammer with a throw of 160-9. Freshman Lindsay McShane was second at 157-4, the No. 3 all-time throw, and freshman Sydney Guthrie-Baker was sixth at 132-3, No. 5 all-time mark.
In the javelin, Hawaii transfer Destiny Dawson threw unattached and placed second at 147-8, which would have been a school record had she been competing in uniform. Junior Amber Peschka was second at 142-7, the No. 2 all-time throw and a PR by more than seven feet. Freshman Allison McKenzie was ninth in 127-9, the No. 7 all-time mark.
OSU stays in-state for its second outdoor meet of the spring, the Charles Bowles Willamette University Invitational, scheduled for March 24-25 at McCulloch Stadium in Salem.
