Wiese Named to Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team
CORVALLIS – Three Oregon State women's basketball players were honored by the Pac-12 as All-Academic selections on Friday. Senior Sydney Wiese earned Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team recognition for the third-straight year, while sophomores Katie McWilliams and Taylor Kalmer were both academic honorable mentions.
Â
A speech communication major, Wiese is Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year, a Senior CLASS Award Finalist and an Academic All-America selection. The senior has launched her own web series in conjunction with Oregon State gymnast Megan Jimenez, and hopes to go into broadcasting at the conclusion of her playing career. She has also worked extensively in the community, donating her hair in a special Haircuts for Cancer ceremony last week, and participating in a Candlelighters for Cancer fishing trip over the summer. Wiese is one of 14 players in conference history to make the All-Pac-12 Coaches Team four times. The senior, who has already been named to the watch lists for the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, Wade Trophy, Ann Meyers Drysdale Award and Lieberman Award, is the Pac-12's career record holder for 3-pointers.
Â
McWilliams is majoring in Kinesiology, and has played in 30 games this season. The sophomore averages 21.4 minutes per appearance, and is averaging 4.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Her season was highlighted by a 29-point showing in Oregon State's season-opener vs. Lamar.
Â
Kalmer has played in 21 games, and is shooting 42.4 percent from the floor. The Pre-Interior Design major played some important minutes for the Beavers at last week's Pac-12 Tournament, and was credited with playing some of her best basketball in Sunday's Tournament Final vs. Stanford.
Â
Oregon State will host an NCAA Selection Show Watch Party on Monday in the Club Level of Reser Stadium. For more information on that event, click here.
