December 01, 2017 | Women's Basketball
WAILUKU, Maui – The No. 19 Oregon State women's basketball team bid Aloha to the 2017 Maui Jim Maui Classic with an 89-49 victory over Nevada Friday evening in Wailuku, Hawaii.
"I was really proud of the effort," said Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck. "I thought we scrapped really hard tonight, and played really good defense. We kept them off balance, and that allowed us to jump in front right off the bat. We shot the ball and moved the ball well. Overall this was a really strong performance - the team just had a great time competing."
Sophomore Kat Tudor led the Beavers with 15 points, knocking down four 3-pointers for the fifth time this season. The guard also pulled down six boards in the contest.
Senior Marie Gulich went 7-for-9 from the field to finish with 14 points. Junior Katie McWilliams filled the stat sheet with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. Fellow junior Taylor Kalmer rounded out four Beavers in double-figures, going for 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Sophomore Mikayla Pivec tallied nine points and seven rebounds. Joanna Grymek, Aleah Goodman and Taya Corosdale all finished with eight points apiece.
As a team, the Beavers shot a scorching 53.7 percent from the floor, compared to 27.4 percent for the Wolfpack. Oregon State connected on 13 3-pointers, knocking down 54.2 percent of its tries from long distance. OSU also dominated the glass, holding a 45-32 advantage in rebounds.
The Beavers came out of the gate strong, taking an early 12-3 lead after conceding the first bucket of the game. Oregon State kept rolling from there, carrying a 26-13 advantage into the second quarter.
OSU exploded in the second, scoring the first nine points of the frame to go in front by 22. The Beavers would take a 48-23 advantage into the intermission.
Oregon State extended the lead to 30 early in the third quarter, on its way to a 75-38 lead headed to the closing frame. The Beavers cruised from there, taking the win by 40.
Oregon State will close out the Maui Jim Maui Classic Saturday, when the Beavers take on Utah State at 9 p.m. PT/7 p.m. HT. That game will be streamed live via Akaku TV.
