EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore center Drew Eubanks had 19 points and six rebounds on Saturday to lead Oregon State in an 85-43 loss to No. 13 Oregon at Knight Court in the 347th edition of the basketball Civil War.
It was the sixth consecutive game in double figures for Eubanks, who is averaging 16.7 points in that stretch, with a high of 19 and a low of 13. He has hit double figures in 14 of 18 games this season and 25 times in his career.
Sophomore guard Stephen Thompson Jr. added 10 points, all in the second half, to reach double figures for the 12th consecutive time and for the 32nd time in 44 career games. He tied Eubanks for the team lead with six rebounds and added six assists.
Oregon (16-2, 5-0 Pac-12) opened the game with 21 unanswered points as the Beavers (4-13, 0-5 Pac-12) missed their first nine shots from the field and their first two free throws. They did not score for the opening 9:17 until Eubanks broke the drought with a dunk.
Only two players scored in the first half and the Beavers trailed 41-13 at the break. Â Their previous low for first-half points was 17, against USC on Dec. 28 in their Pac-12 opener. They were 4 of 24 (.167) from the field, 1 of 10 (.100) from beyond the arc and had 12 turnovers.
OSU improved to .444 (12-27) from the field in the second half but never made a serious run at the lead. The Beavers are 2-10 since losing sophomore forward Tres Tinkle, their leading returning scorer from a 2015-16 club that advanced to the NCAA tournament, to a wrist injury on Nov. 25.
Saturday's game was part of the Civil War Series, sponsored by PacificSource Health Plans, Spirit Mountain Casino, Safeway/Albertsons and Your Local Toyota Dealers.
The Beavers return to Gill Coliseum next week to host the Bay Area schools. They face Stanford at 8 p.m. Thursday and California at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; both games will be televised by the Pac-12 Network.
