
Eight Named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes

Eight Oregon State rowers were named 2016 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athletes, the CRCA announced this week.
Olivia Ashby (Rotorua, New Zealand), Alyssa Beamer (Solvang, Calif.), Lihani du Plessis (Canmore, Alberta, Canada), Joely Hannan (Snoqualmie, Wash.), Alissa Kummer (Oakdale, Calif.), Tess O'Leary (Paisley, Ore.), Chen Oshri (Ramat Gan, Israel) and Natalie Sarff (Post Falls, Idaho) received the academic honors.
This marks the third straight season Oshri, a senior studying biology, garnered the award and is the second year in a row for du Plessis, a junior majoring in BioHealth Sciences with an option in pre-med, and for O'Leary, also a junior studying agricultural business management.
Kummer, a senior pursuing a degree in nutrition with minors in chemistry and exercise physiology from OSU's Honors College, also earned the award in 2013.
It is the first award for Ashby (business), Beamer (industrial engineering), Hannan (biochemistry and biophysics), and Sarff (public health).
REQUIREMENTS
- The student-athlete has met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution.
- The student-athlete was in her 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of eligibility.
- The student-athlete rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.
- The head coach of the student-athlete's institution was a member in good standing of the CRCA as of May 1, 2016.
CRITERIA
- The student-athlete has had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
