Fehmel Picks Up 2nd Freshman All-America Honor
June 13, 2016 | Baseball
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Oregon State right-handed pitcher Bryce Fehmel has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-America First Team, it was announced Monday.
Fehmel is the lone Pac-12 Conference player on the first or second teams, which include 32 student-athletes overall. It's his second Freshman All-America honor, following his inclusion by Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball. He's also a Second-Team All-American by Louisville Slugger.
A native of Agoura Hills, Calif., Fehmel tied for the nation's lead in victories among freshmen with 10. He ended the season with a 2.31 earned run average in 70 innings of work, accumulating 51 strikeouts to 23 walks.
His stats line during Pac-12 play was even better. He went 4-1 against Pac-12 foes, posting a 1.42 ERA in 11 appearances, throwing a total of 38 innings. Pac-12 opponents batted just .193 against him.
Fehmel's honor gives the Beavers at least one first team selection by the NCBWA in seven of the last nine seasons. Previous Oregon State honorees include Kevin Rhoderick (2008), Sam Gaviglio (2009), Matt Boyd (2010), Michael Conforto (2012), Andrew Moore (2013), KJ Harrison (2015) and Drew Rasmussen (2015).
The NCBWA will announce its Freshman Hitter and Pitcher of the Year on Tuesday.
