Beavers' Series With Stanford Tied At One
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The 10th-ranked Oregon State baseball team dropped a 6-0 decision to Stanford Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
The teams will play the series' rubber match Sunday at Goss Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1:05 p.m. PT, with coverage on OSUBeavers.com and the Beaver Sports Network.
Nick Madrigal, Logan Ice and Billy King all doubled for the Beavers, who finished with seven hits. But that was all the offense Oregon State (27-12 overall, 9-8 Pac-12 Conference) was able to muster.
Stanford (20-17, 8-9) starter Chris Castellanos stymied the Beavers through 6 1/3 innings. The lefty scattered six hits to go along with two walks and three strikeouts before being replaced in the seventh. He picked up the win to improve to 5-2.
Luke Heimlich started for the Beavers and pitched 6 1/3 innings. The lefty allowed six runs and nine hits and was saddled with the loss to drop to 5-2 on the year.
Stanford picked up its first three runs in the first, a frame highlighted by Nico Hoerner's two-run double.
The Cardinal chased Heimlich with a three-run seventh; an RBI triple off the bat of Tommy Edman was the lefty's final batter of the game.
Tommy Paul came on in relief of Heimlich in the seventh and proceeded to allow just two hits in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two in the first Pac-12 game appearance of his career.
The loss snapped Oregon State's 12-game win streak over the Cardinal. The Beavers, winners of 15-of-17 over the Cardinal, can win their sixth straight series over Stanford with a victory Sunday.
