It's A Sweep: Beavers Win Sunday
April 10, 2016 | Baseball
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Luke Heimlich held Central Arkansas scoreboard in a career-long 7 2/3 inning start Sunday to send the seventh-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a sweep of the Bears with a 7-1 win at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
Heimlich scattered four hits and tied a career-high seven strikeouts for his fourth victory of the season.
The outing was the left-hander's fourth quality start of the year. Three of his four wins have come in his four starts, and he's allowed just 16 hits and three walks in 27 1/3 innings when opening a game on the hill. His earned run average in starts is a miniscule 0.98.
Offensively, the Beavers (22-7 overall) erupted for six hits over their last two turns at the plate, finishing with eight overall. Christian Donahue doubled in both the first and third innings, accounting for the team's only two hits over the first innings.
Donahue ended the game with three hits – his fourth three-hit game of the season. He now has 10 multi-hit efforts of the season, which ties him for second on the team.
Logan Ice and Jack Anderson each recorded singles in both the seventh and eighth innings to finish with two apiece.
Riley Echols started for Central Arkansas (13-17), and allowed three runs – one earned – and two hits in five innings. He struck out three but issued five walks. He took the loss to drop to 1-1 on the year.
The Beavers took a 2-0 lead in the third when an errant throw by UCA shortstop Brooks Ballisterri allowed two to score.
OSU scored two in the sixth thanks to fielder's choice plays off the bats of Steven Kwan and Trever Morrison.
The Beavers then punctuated the win with three insurance runs in the seventh. Ice, Kwan and Billy King drove in runs in the inning.
Oregon State continues non-conference action when hosting Portland Tuesday in a midweek matchup. First pitch at Goss Stadium is slated for 5:35 p.m. PT. Tickets for the game remain available and can be purchased by visiting BeaverTickets.com. The Goss Stadium ticket office will open at 3:30 p.m.
