Logan Ice Named To Johnny Bench Watch List
March 08, 2016 | Baseball
WICHITA, Kan. – There were two very well deserved honors bestowed on Logan Ice on Tuesday.
First, the junior was named the Pac-12's Player of the Week after record six hits, two home runs and eight runs batted in over three games. Now, hours later, he's been named to the initial watch list for the Johnny Bench Award, which is given annually to the nation's top collegiate catcher.
The list starts at 74 catchers, and Ice is one of five who hail from the Pac-12 Conference. The list will be pared down to semifinalists and announced on May 18. Finalists are to be announced June 6 with the winner taking home the hardware from Wichita on June 30.
Ice, a sociology major, is at top of many of the Pac-12's offensive categories. He leads the league in slugging percentage (.886), RBI (16), total bases (31) and triples (3), is tied for first with three home runs and is tied for second with a .429 batting average.
The backstop is also tied for second in the Pac-12 with four opposing basestealers thrown out. For his career, he's thrown out better than 50 percent of opponents' attempts (34-for-67).
Ice and the Beavers return to Corvallis this weekend when hosting San Francisco for a three-game series at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The 2016 home opener is slated for 5:35 p.m. PT on Friday night. For tickets, visit BeaverTickets.com or call (800) GO-BEAVS between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
