Last Game
KJ Harrison and Logan Ice each homered but the Beavers were unable to overcome a five-run fourth by California in a 6-2 loss to the Golden Bears on Thursday night. Harrison homered in the first, and Ice hit a 3-2 shot over the right field fence in the seventh inning. Both were solo round trippers. Drew Rasmussen started and worked 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and five runs. He took the loss. Daulton Jefferies started for California and picked up the win after holding the Beavers to four hits with four strikeouts in a complete game effort. Four Beavers had one hit.
Martinek Makes His Debut
• Redshirt freshman Christian Martinek made his collegiate debut Thursday night.
• The left-handed pitcher worked a scoreless ninth inning, facing four batters.
• He became the 12th player to make his collegiate debut for the Beavers this season, and the fifth to do so on the mound.
Opponents' Average Down
• The OSU staff held California to five hits in Thursday's loss.
• The Beavers have held opponents to a .219 batting average on the year, and in Pac-12 Conference play, that number drops to .183.
• Over the last eight games, opponents have totaled 48 hits and are batting .189.
• Oregon State is batting .290 with 74 hits over the same stretch.
Touch 'Em All
• Logan Ice and KJ Harrison each homered Thursday, giving the Beavers a multi homer game for the third time this season.
• Ice is now second in the Pac-12 this season with five home runs, which leads the Beavers.
• Ice is also now the Pac-12 leader with 21 runs batted in this season.
• Harrison extended his hit streak to five games with the home run. He has three doubles, two home runs and six RBI during the streak.
Singles
• Friday's loss was the 10th Pac-12 series opening loss by the Beavers since 2013. Oregon State has won 21 series openers over that stretch.
• The Beavers have gone on to win game two of the series seven times.
• Friday's probable starter, Jake Thompson, worked seven innings against Arizona State last weekend. That tied a career-long for the junior. He had worked seven against Pacific in 2014 when he was a freshman.
• Freshman Nick Madrigal extended his hit streak to 13 games with a single in the ninth on Thursday.
• Madrigal has recorded a hit in 18 of the Beavers' 19 games this season.
