Comeback Falls Just Short Vs. UVU

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The fifth-ranked Oregon State baseball team nearly overcame an eight-run deficit Saturday afternoon, but was unable to complete the comeback in a 12-9 loss at Surprise Stadium.
The Beavers, down 8-0 after four innings and 11-2 after five, used a six-run sixth inning to pull within three. The teams, however, each scored just one run over the final three innings for the 12-9 final.
Oregon State sent 10 to the plate during the six-run frame, with a two-run single by pinch hitter Logan Ice highlighting the inning. Ice, who later came on to catch, finished the day with two hits and three runs batted in.
Billy King tied a career-best with three hits, leading the Oregon State offense's 15-hit day. Trever Morrison, KJ Harrison, Cadyn Grenier and Kyle Nobach, in addition to Ice, all had two hits. For Grenier, the two hits marked the first of his career after walking three times in the Beavers' opening game on Friday.
Jake Thompson took the loss for the Beavers after allowing seven hits and six runs – five earned – over 2 1/3 innings. His starting counterpart, Jackson Cofer from Utah Valley, earned the win after going five. He allowed five hits and two runs.
The teams combined for 21 runs, 28 hits, 17 walks and 14 strikeouts in the game, which lasted four hours and 20 minutes before a crowd of 2,475 mostly decked out in orange and black.
