
Softball Q&A: Taylor Cotton

CORVALLIS, Ore. – In the days in between games during the 2016 season, OSUBeavers.com will help you get to know the 2016 Oregon State softball team a little better with some question and answer sessions. Featured in today's Q&A is junior pitcher Taylor Cotton.
A native of Lincoln, Calif., Cotton is in the midst of her second season with the Beavers. Cotton has tossed 1.1 innings across a pair of appearances this season, allowing just one unearned run with a strikeout over that span.
What is your favorite thing about being part of the program?
I soon as I took my visit here, I knew it was the place for me.
When did you know you wanted to play at Oregon State?
The opportunity to show I bleed orange and black and to play for Coach (Laura) Berg.
How would you best describe the coaching staff?
Intense, yet fun and goofy at the same time.
What trip are you most looking forward to this season?
Palm Springs, Calif. (Mary Nutter Classic)
Do you have any gameday rituals or superstitions? If so, what are some of them?
No, I'm not really superstitious.
If you could play any other position for one day, what would it be and why?
Catcher, because I would get a different view of the field and the game.
What is your favorite sport to attend or watch outside of softball? Why?
Football, because I love the atmosphere that comes with the games.
Which of your teammates would be most likely to U.S. President or political office? Why?
Kayleen Shafer, because she has the motivation to do something like that if she put her mind to it.
Which of your teammates would be most likely to be a comedian? Why?
Lovie Lopez. She would be the most likely to do something funny if you put her up on a stage.
Which teammate would be most likely to be a coach one day? Why?
Bev Miller, because she enjoys working with kids.
What are your hobbies outside of playing softball?
Naps, watching Netflix and cuddling with my roommates' cats.
Describe a funny or interesting part of studying your major at Oregon State.
I actually don't see a lot of other student-athletes in my classes.
When did you start playing softball and how did you get your start playing?
I started playing at age eight. I really got into it because I found a lot of friends the same interests as me and I just felt like it was the sport for me.
What sets softball apart from the other sports you enjoy?
As competitive as this sport is, it really calms me when I'm in the circle.
What advice would you give to a young athlete who has aspirations of playing sports at the collegiate level?
No matter what people say, keep your mind on your dreams and practice every day to get there.
