Emma Jones scored her first goal of the season
EUGENE, Ore. — Junior Emma Jones scored her first goal of the season to help the Oregon State women's soccer team edge Oregon, 1-0 in the 21st Civil War match presented by PacificSource Health Plans, Spirit Mountain Casino, Safeway/Albersons and Your Local Toyota Dealers. It was the first victory for the Beavers at Papè Field since the 2010 season and the first Civil War victory since 2013. The win was also the first time OSU has won back-to-back Pac-12 road games since 2011, when it defeated the Arizona schools.
The match was the final for both teams as Oregon State finished its season 8-10-2, 3-8 Pac-12 and Oregon 8-10-2, 2-8-1 Pac-12.
Junior Bella Geist was solid in between the pipes in the final outing, tallying six saves—three each half. Geist saw 17 shots from the Ducks, including four corner kicks.
Senior Helene Haavik racked up a team-high three shots in her final game in a Beavers uniform, including a shot on goal. Freshman Nicole Nickerson also looked to score tallying a pair of shots, both being on goal.
The Ducks recorded seven shots in the first half, while the Beavers finished with three, as the match was scoreless at the break.
Oregon State started the second half firing a trio of shots within the first 10 ticks, but could not find the back of the net. Oregon came back with five shots, but none were on frame.
The Beavers broke the drought in the 81st minute after junior Emma Jones received a pass from junior Nikki Faris at the top of the box and fired through the Ducks' keeper to score.
OSU looked to hold the lead, but it wasn't an easy task. The Ducks shot five attempts in the final 10 minutes, including a pair of saves by Geist but could not find the equalizer.
