Tchilao Scores, but Beavers Fall to Washington
October 14, 2016 | Men's Soccer
Oregon State heads into a bye week before hitting the road to face Stanford and Cal
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Sophomore Don Tchilao's third goal of the season was not enough for the Oregon State men's soccer team, as the Beavers fell to No. 22 Washington in double-overtime Friday evening at Paul Lorenz Field.
Tchilao opened the scoring in the 28th minute to put the Beavers in front. Junior Timmy Mueller cleared the ball out of the Oregon State box to find Tchilao in space. The sophomore proceeded to move past the Washington goalkeeper well outside the 18-yard box, before calmly slotting the ball into the empty net from 28 yards out.
The Huskies would level the score early in the second half on a penalty kick in the 47th minute, and would end the match with a game-winner in the 102nd.
Tchilao led the Beavers with four shots, including two on goal. Mueller and freshman Eric Diaz finished the match with two shots apiece.
The Beavers had a promising move going forward in the 53rd minutes, when freshman Loke Strenov started a counter attack down the left wing. But the Washington defense was able to clear the ball to end the threat. Oregon State would head forward again a few minutes later, but Tchilao's cross was blocked on its way in.
Oregon State came close to taking the win at the end of regulation, as Mueller missed just wide with a header in the final five minutes. The Beavers would create another scoring chance on a corner in the 89th minutes, but could not get the winner and the match headed to overtime.
OSU posted four shots in the first overtime period, but could not find the net. Washington ended the match at the beginning of the second overtime.
Oregon State has now gone to overtime in three consecutive matches, and has played extra minutes in four of its last five.
Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Ryan Vincent made his regular-season debut for the Beavers in the match, notching one save and looking confident against set pieces.
Oregon State will now have a bye-week, before it hits the road for a matchup with Stanford on Thursday Oct. 27.
