CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State volleyball team has hired Jessica Quinn as director of operations and Ian Parson as assistant director of operations, the team announced on Thursday.
Quinn will handle all team logistics, team travel and various management duties, while Parson will support her in all phases of the program.
“We're very fortunate to get Jessica Quinn on board,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “She served as a volunteer with us a while back. We know her, she lives in the community and her skill sets are what we're really looking for: someone who's organized, an outside-the-box thinker and knows volleyball. She fits all of those categories. I think that she's going to be a terrific addition to our staff – it's great to have her.”
Quinn enters her first year as director of operations at OSU with over 15 years of experience in coaching and operations. Most recently, she served as a coordinator of Oregon State's Sports and Special Programs, supervising operations for 40 collegiate sports clubs.
She served in that role from 2011-15, coordinating travel, event planning, fiscal planning and budget management, among other operations responsibilities. Additionally, she served as the coordinator of marketing and student development in her final year.
Prior to that position, Quinn served as the director of girls' volleyball for the Clovis North Area & Bronco Elite Volleyball Club from 2007-11. Among her other duties included in this role, Quinn served as a head coach.
From 1998-2012, Quinn gained coaching experience with various college and club teams, including a one-year stint with OSU volleyball as a volunteer in 2011. Other college roles include service as an assistant coach at Rhodes College (2000), as well as a volunteer assistant role at UC-Davis (2004).
Quinn played volleyball all four years of college, starting at Reedley College from 1995-97. Quinn captained the team to a pair of Central Valley Conference Championships, as well as fourth-place and sixth-place finishes in the California State Championships.
Following her time at Reedley, Quinn also served as a team captain at the University of Memphis (1997-99), where she finished among the program's top-five career assist leaders (2,681) in only two seasons, while also posting two of the top-five single-game assist totals in school history (75 and 74, respectively).
Parson brings additional volleyball management experience to the table, most recently serving as a team manager for OSU volleyball from 2013-14. Over that same span, Parson was also a member of the men's club volleyball program, serving as secretary in 2014.
“Ian has worked through our system as a manager and is a hard worker,” Liskevych said. “He has a great attitude, a great personality and is someone that everyone likes being part of the team. It's a great fit for him and a great addition for our staff.”
In 2014, Parson was a member of Oregon State's Division IAA National Collegiate Volleyball Federation championship team, earning NCVF Division IAA First Team and Pacific Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (PIVA) Second Team honors at libero.
A Thousand Oaks, Calif. native, Parson's playing career also included participation in the 2011 Junior Olympics, where his team won the club championship.
Quinn graduated cum laude from the University of Memphis in 2000 as a criminal justice major and political science minor, while Parson is working towards a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife.
