Beavers Finish Third against Cougars, Bruins
May 03, 2015 | Women's Rowing
LOWELL, Ore. – The No. 18 Oregon State women's rowing team raced to four third-place finishes Saturday against No. 7 Washington State and No. 17 UCLA.
“Today was a rough day of racing for us,” head coach Emily Ford said. “This team has much better races in it. We were pretty flat across the board. Hat's off to Washington State and UCLA for putting together some great races. We'll look forward to seeing them and the rest of the Pac-12 in two weeks.”
With OSU's seniors racing on their home course for the final time of their careers, the Varsity 8 covered the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6:52.63 to finish third behind the Cougars (6:36.30) and Bruins (6:42.79). OSU's V8 crew consisted of Chen Oshri, Jessica Stewart, Paige Phillips, Lauren Still, Kyrie Miller, Saasha Bruce, Theresa O'Leary and Julie Stark and was coxed by Arcata Leavitt.
In the Second Varsity 8, it was once again Washington State crossing the finish in a time of 6:46.38 ahead of UCLA (6:51.32) and OSU (6:59.63).
OSU's Third Varsity 8 rowed to a third place finish with a time of 7:09.22 ahead of Oregon (7:16.55) and WSU's Fourth Varsity 8 (7:42.82). However, the Cougars' 3V8 earned the win in a time of 6:56.8 and UCLA pulled in at 6:59.89.
In the fours, Washington State once again outraced the Beavers with OSU's Varsity 4+ turning in a time of 8:07.06 and the 2V4+ finishing in 8:42.54.
Saturday's racing concludes the regular season for the Beavers. Championship season begins May 19 with the Pac-12 Championships at Gold River, Calif.
