Hamilton Homers In Opener Vs. USC

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Caleb Hamilton highlighted Oregon State's night with a third-inning home run but the Beavers dropped an 11-3 decision to USC in the series opener Friday night at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
USC scored two apiece in the fourth and fifth innings and broke the game open with a six-run seventh. The Trojans improved to 30-10 overall and 11-5 in Pac-12 Conference play. The Beavers, meanwhile, dropped to 25-13 overall and 8-8 in league play.
Hamilton hit the second pitch he saw in the third over the left field fence for his second home run of the season. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Trojans went up 2-1 in the fourth.
Billy King, entering as a pinch hitter in the eighth, accounted for the Beavers other two runs when he hit a ground rule double down the third-base line.
Andrew Moore started for the Beavers and surrendered nine hits and six runs in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out five but took the loss and dropped to 4-2 on the year.
USC's Tyler Gilbert picked up a quality start for the Trojans, scattering four hits and three runs in seven innings. He struck out 10 and improved to 3-1 this season.
